My Place

My Place

New Growth

I find
the greatest pleasure
when settling in
with pieces of paper
and my favorite pen
a simmering pot
of potpourri
my favorite jazz
and just plain me

dusty books nestling
on shelves above
an island of safety
and things that I love
for here no-one tells me
what I should say
if they try
with my hand
I can write them away

for it’s here in this place
so familiar to me
I can write and create
and just simply be
I can laugh, I can cry
I can scream, I can shout,
I can be really silly
let the child in me out

I can be oh so different
than I’ve ever been
and if I like how it feels
I can do it again
so don’t think me demented
I’m doing just fine
I’m merely creating
at home in my mind
